Join us Thursday, April 5 from 6-9 p.m. for a free screening of the inspirational documentary Night School, followed with discussion and facilitation on the film, adult education, and adult literacy by Dreeben School of Education Faculty. The film chronicles the individual journeys of three adult students in Indianapolis as they work to better themselves and their situations to earn their high school diploma.
Indianapolis has one of the lowest high school graduation rates in the country. For adult learners Greg, Melissa and Shynika, finally earning their high school diplomas could be a life-changing achievement. Cohn’s absorbing documentary observes their individual pursuits, fraught with the challenges of daily life and the broader systemic roadblocks faced by many low income Americans.
After the film screening, Dr. Alsandor will facilitate audience reflection, discussion, and share insights on adult education and literacy in San Antonio and how it remains a crucial stepping stone to bettering lives.
Sponsored by the Dreeben School of Education, the School of Applied Sciences, Ettling Center for Civic Leadership, and Women’s Global Connection.
Location: UIW Student Engagement Center Ballroom
